Call for proposals for work that is 25-30 minutes that will be performed in public spaces. This should be a portable and adaptable project that has few technical requirements or is completely self-contained and can be set up in half a day or less. It must have at least 4 performers, but no more than 7 people total in the touring party (including production and technical crew), to be transported with either 2 cars or 1 minivan. Depending on the selected project and the contexts in which it will be presented, the partners might consider two different production formats: one version meeting the stated criteria and one larger-scale version (increased team, space and budget). The work must be adaptable to uneven surfaces (grass, asphalt) and a variety of weather conditions. It should be possible to perform it outdoors in temperatures between 12 and 35 degrees Celsius and in strong winds (set design, performer comfort and costumes). This work should be for everyone and accessible without physical barriers or audience screening. No nudity is permitted. A work that does not depend on public participation, either prior to or during the performance, nor on community engagement. However, such elements can be discussed and added, if applicable, depending on the presentation contexts. All types of dance that can be adapted to the proposed framework are welcome
Background: Festival TransAmériques (FTA), the National Arts Centre (NAC Dance) and FURIES — contemporary dance festival have come together to support the creation of an outdoor dance piece for public space. The performance will be offered free of charge to the public in prominent, busy and central locations, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy it. The goal of this pilot project is to invigorate the creation of performing arts in public space and expand opportunities for presenters to find relevant works for the enjoyment of audiences. The proposed creative framework and the resources assembled by the partners are meant to encourage flexible processes and reduce the administrative burden so energy can be focused on the artistic process. Additional funding is permitted, though not required by the partners.
How to Apply: Apply via Google Form here.
Eligibility: The professional artist(s) leading the project must be based in Canada or the Indigenous territories of this country. The artists agree to respect copyright and to negotiate and secure all necessary permissions for use of the presented material (choreography, music, text, visuals or other) in accordance with established standards. Any such expenses must be included in the submitted budget. The submitted application must be complete and include footage of previous projects.
Deadline: June 22nd, 2026 at 11:59 pm
